Luke Cuerel is a musician, composer and educator from Brisbane, Australia with a particular interest for music in unique contexts, in relation to people, places and events in Australian life.

Over the course of his study and career, Luke has developed a particular interest in jazz and improvised music, and how they relate to current Australian culture. He currently writes for, performs and manages projects such as his 14 piece ensemble the “Luke Cuerel Orchestra” (being awarded a “Highly Commended” at the 2020 Queensland Music Awards and a feature on ABC Jazz “Home Cooked” show), electronic duo “Polymer” and regularly performs as a sideman for artists such as “Boy and Bear” all the way to experimental, jazz and improvised music groups. He has also recently been involved in the Soundstream’s Emerging composer forum, and Tone List’s Sounding Together workshops in Adelaide and Perth respectively.

This year has Luke working on a piece for Aldinga Scrub in Adelaide for the second instalment of the Emerging Composer Forum, an electronics album for release in 2021 a string quartet and teaching classroom music in Brisbane.
